Monmouthshire’s civic buildings will benefit from a welcome touch of colour this spring when the county council’s newly commissioned daffodil comes into bloom.
The Monmouthshire daffodil was commissioned to celebrate the area’s Welsh heritage and was launched at August’s National Eisteddfod in Ebbw Vale.
Stocks of the bulb have been sent to the council’s premises at Shire Hall in Monmouth, County Hall in Cwmbran, Caldicot’s Budden Crescent respite hub and the new offices in Magor, scheduled to open next year. The County Hall and Magor displays were organised by the council’s grounds maintenance staff and impressive planters have been placed in front of each building.
The Monmouthshire daffodil, specially bred by Ron Scamp of Quality Daffodils in Cornwall, was registered earlier this summer and is sponsored by local business Camelot IT.
Monmouthshire’s Chairman, County Councillor Peter Clarke (pictured at the Eisteddfod ceremony) said: “Our daffodil represents the best that our county has to offer. We offer a proud welcome to Monmouthshire, the gateway to Wales”.
