Chairman of Monmouthshire County Council, Councillor Peter Clarke, will launch the county’s very own emblematic daffodil at the National Eisteddfod in Ebbw Vale on Thursday, August 5th.
The daffodil, a traditional symbol of Wales, was commissioned by the council to celebrate Monmouthshire’s Welsh heritage. The ceremony to unveil the daffodil takes place at 2pm in the shared Monmouthshire and Torfaen stand on The Maes and will feature recitations of the poems “Daffodil” by the renowned Welsh poet, I D Hooson, and “Daffodowndilly” by A A Milne.
Monmouthshire’s daffodil, specially bred by Ron Scamp of Quality Daffodils, was registered earlier this month. It is sponsored by local business Camelot IT.
Councillor Clarke commented; “Our daffodil represents the best that our county has to offer. We offer a proud welcome to Monmouthshire, the gateway to Wales”.
