Montgomeryshire’s Conservative MP, Glyn Davies, and Assembly Member Russell George are expressing concern about rumours of a downgrading of Llanidloes Fire Service. Both Montgomeryshire politicians met with Mayor of Llanidloes, John Whittal-Williams to discuss the issue. Following the meeting Glyn Davies commented;
“There are strong rumours circulating around Llanidloes that the small fire tender at Llanidloes Fire Station is to be cut. If these rumours turn out to be true, it would be a worrying development. There are many tracks and small roads within the ‘catchment area’ of the Llanidloes that the small fire tender at Llanidloes Fire Station is to be cut. Fire Service which may well make some properties inaccessible.
“There is no doubt that it’s becoming increasingly difficult to retain our local services, a trend that has been clear for decades. There is a degree of inevitability about this process, but those of us who represent the more rural parts of Wales must ensure that we are treated fairly. The Fire Service is a hugely important part of the community, and I hope that the local council will join me in making representations to find out what is happening, and seek reassurance that the local service in not to be decreased.”
Llanidloes that the small fire tender at Llanidloes Fire Station is to be cut. Mayor John Whittal-Williams added “We must ensure the Land Rover tender remains in Llanidloes that the small fire tender at Llanidloes Fire Station is to be cut. as it is a vital piece of equipment which provides the all round fire cover that this very rural area of Mid Wales demands.”
