Montgomeryshire MP Supporting Heroes Return Programme

Glyn Davies MPGlyn Davies, Conservative MP for Montgomeryshire, is supporting the Big Lottery Fund’s ‘Heroes Return 2’ programme, which is commemorating the 70th anniversary of the D-Day Normandy Landings in the Second World War.

‘Heroes Return 2’ will provide funding to many Second World War veterans, to enable them to mark this historic occasion with visits to the places they served across the world during the War. The programme, run by the Big Lottery Fund, will offer veterans from the UK grants from between £165 to £8,150 towards travel and accommodation expenses.

WWII veterans resident in the UK or Republic of Ireland who saw active service overseas with or alongside the British and Allied Armed Forces in the Second World War can apply for a grant. WWII veterans may be accompanied by a spouse and/or carer. Widows and widowers of WWII veterans are also eligible.

Speaking about the Heroes Return 2 programme, Glyn Davies MP said:

“Seventy years ago on 6 June 1944, the largest invasion in history took place when allied forces landed on the beaches of Normandy to liberate Europe from German occupation. D-Day marked the beginning of the end of the Second World War, and rightfully takes its place in history as one of the most important military events of all time.

“The Big Lottery Fund’s Heroes Return 2 programme will commemorate the events leading up to the end of the War by providing funding for veterans, spouses and carers, to revisit the places where they served, and to remember the sacrifices made by their fallen friends and comrades.

“The scheme is open to all Second World War veterans, and will provide a fantastic opportunity for veterans and their families in Montgomeryshire to commemorate this historic occasion.”
