Glyn Davies, Montgomeryshire’s Conservative MP has welcomed this week’s announcement that the Orthopaedic Hospital at Gobowen will be known as the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic NHS Hospital Trust.
He congratulates everyone who has worked extremely hard to bring foundation status to the Hospital. The new status will mean that the Trust now managing the Hospital will have new freedoms to shape services to match the needs of the people that it serves, and be able to retain any surpluses and invest them in support of locally decided priorities.
Commenting on the awarding of Foundation Trust status, Glyn Davies, who has recently benefited from the expertise available at the Hospital said’
“I am very pleased that the Orthopaedic at Gobowen has been awarded Foundation Trust status. It is a great achievement for everyone involved in the management and running of the Hospital. It secures the independence of this great Hospital into the future. It also means that those now running the Orthopaedic will have greater freedom to provide services tailored to local needs, and will retain any surpluses for local investment.”
“I was particularly pleased that Health Secretary of State, Andrew Lansley visited the Hospital on the eve of the announcement, reinforcing the magnitude of what has been achieved. There have not been any awards of Foundation Trust status for a very long time, and Andrew’s visit emphasises just how significant this change of status is.”
“Andrew Lansley visited the Midlands Centre for Spinal Injuries at the Hospital, where for the last few months I have been undergoing treatment. It would have given us both a surprise if I had been in the operating theatre when he was on a tour of it. We could have spoken at length of the excellence of the Hospital. I’m sure we will do when we meet in the lobby in September”.
