Glyn Davies MP and Russell George AM met with the Chair and Chief Executive of the Shrewsbury and Telford HS Hospital Trust last Friday. Under discussion were the services provided at Shrews bury and Tel ford Hospitals, upon which many Montgomeryshire residents depend.
Both Montgomeryshire politicians remain disappointed that maternity and children’s services are going to be concentrated at Telford, but welcome confirmation that the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital will be designated a ‘Trauma Unit’, and that it will be confirmed as a centre for enhanced vascular surgery.
Commenting after the meeting Glyn Davies said:
“It’s hugely encouraging that the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital has been designated as a ‘Trauma Unit. There was a real danger that this would not happen, and that the nearest trauma hospital for Montgomeryshire patients would be Birmingham.
“I also very pleased that an enhanced vascular screening programme is going to be available at Shrewsbury Hospital. The specific new service will be known as the Abdominal Aortic Aneurism (AAA) Programme, and it will lead to many lives of those with heart disease being saved.”
Russell George commented “I am disappointed that maternity and children’s services are to be concentrated at Telford rather than Shrewsbury, but I do believe that our objections have delivered results in the form of an improved ambulance service and new services being placed at Shrewsbury.”
