The regeneration strategy for Rhyl moves another step forward with two major schemes scheduled to start on site in Januray.
Denbighshire County Council has just completed the acquisition of the Costigans building opposite Rhyl Railway and Bus Station. The dilapidated building has been an eyesore in the town for many years, but is now set to be renovated with financial support from the Property & Environment Grants and Townscape Heritage Initiative Grants that are available in Rhyl town centre.
Work to transform the external appearance of the building will start in January. When the scheme is complete the refurbished property will be marketed and could be suitable for a range of occupiers such as a shop or cafe.
Improvements to the Costigans building will coincide with the start of work on the Bee & Station building across the road which is also scheduled to start in January.
This ambitious scheme will convert the listed building into high quality, office accommodation, and has been designed to meet the highest environmental specifications.
Dave Thomas, Denbighshire’s Lead Member for Regeneration, said: “This is great news for Rhyl.
“These two buildings have been major eyesores for people arriving in Rhyl by train and bus, and their renovation will create a much better impression and compliment the investment that was made earlier this year improving the bus station.”
