Labour AM for Cynon Valley, Christine Chapman, will meet some of the local people who volunteer at the WRVS Mountain Ash Darby and Joan club when she stops by for a visit on Wednesday 25 July at 2pm.
The Darby and Joan club provides those who use it with a chance to leave the house and meet friends and enjoy activities as well as providing older people with a hot, nutritious meal, which can go a long way to reducing the isolation and loneliness that can set in when getting out and about is difficult.
Wendy Marshall, Service Delivery Manager for South East Wales, said: “We’re really pleased to welcome Ms Chapman to the WRVS Mountain Ash Darby and Joan club. Having a chance to meet with our volunteers and experience the service firsthand is a fantastic way to experience just how important the club is to those who use it, and why the volunteers enjoy their work so much.”
Christine Chapman AM said: “I was delighted to be invited to visit the Mountain Ash Darby and Joan Club, and to see the fantastic work the volunteers do. We know that the contributions that volunteers make would amount to many billions of pounds if measured in economic terms, but seeing the human benefit of volunteering, both for volunteers themselves and to those they are helping, plainly shows that such activities are priceless.”
