Cwmcarn Forest played host to a mountain bike icon on Wednesday (28 April) when John Tomac rode the Twrch Trail.
Widely regarded as the greatest mountain bike racer of all time, John Tomac is a retired professional cyclist from Colorado, USA. He competed in multiple disciplines in road racing and mountain biking during a successful senior career that spanned twenty years.
He chose Cwmcarn Forest, which is managed by Forestry Commission Wales on behalf of the Welsh Assembly Government, as the venue to demonstrate the new range from Tomac Mountain Bikes to the UK press.
Carl Denham, Forestry Commission Wales’s Mountain Bike Ranger, said, “It is amazing that a mountain bike racer with such history came to ride our trails here at Cwmcarn.
“We were thrilled to welcome him and our trails provided the perfect backdrop to demonstrate the new range of mountain bikes.”
John Tomac said, “I think the trails here are really fun to ride.”
Tomac Mountain Bikes are imported to the UK by www.hotlines-uk.com and their Marketing Manager, Andy Gowan, organised John Tomac’s visit to Cwmcarn.
As well as the mountain bike trails, Cwmcarn Forest is home to Wales’s only Forest Drive. The seven mile long drive features a wooden sculpture trail, seven themed picnic sites, BBQ spots along with walking trails and a fishing lake. For more information, see www.forestry.gov.uk/wales
