Denbighshire County Council and Conwy County Borough Council have joined forces to work together when tackling homelessness and housing issues.
The Supported Housing ‘Move-on’ Coordinator for Denbighshire started working with Conwy earlier this month, to assist with re-housing homeless people currently staying in temporary accommodation.
In June, the ‘Move-on’ Coordinator launched the new and improved Conwy and Denbighshire Bond Scheme, which is run by Nacro Cymru, and also obtained funding from the Welsh Assembly Government to part-fund Cefni Social Lettings Agency within Denbighshire and Conwy. Both of these services help homeless and potentially homeless people to gain access to suitable and affordable properties in the private sector.
Denbighshire has a ‘Move-on’ Partnership between the Local Authority, Registered Social Landlords, numerous Support Providers and Cefni Social Lettings Agency, and now has firm processes in place to assist people leaving supported and temporary accommodation in Denbighshire. This partnership has recently been nominated for the Private Sector Partnership Award in the Promoting Independence Awards 2010.
Nikki Jones, Move-On Coordinator said, “By working across the two counties, I’m aiming to provide consistency in our approach alongside the cost-efficiencies of collaboration. This can only benefit the people of Denbighshire and Conwy that need our support at a very vulnerable time in their lives.”
