MP Backs Voter Registration Drive

424px-Ian_LucasA voter registration drive for young people has been backed by Ian Lucas MP.

Mr Lucas visited Coleg Cambria in Wrexham town centre to lend his support to the college’s voter registration event, one of hundreds being run across the country around National Voter Registration Day, which was held on February 5 this year.

With young people under-represented at the ballot box, the day was designed on a non-party political basis to encourage democratic participation.

Events have been held in Wrexham on several days this week, including the event Mr Lucas attended yesterday.

He said:

“It is simply wrong to say that young people are not interested in political issues and I am always struck by how engaged they are by politics.

“That’s why I believe it is important that they make sure they are registered to vote and mate sure their voice is heard at the ballot box, and it’s why I lent my support to today’s event.”
