Clwyd West MP, David Jones, is marking the season of Lent by giving up tweeting.
The Wales Office minister, who is a regular user of the micro-blogging website and has almost 1,500 followers, says that abstaining from “tweeting” will introduce some much-needed stillness into his daily life.
“I calculated that during an average day I spend about 30 minutes reading and sending out messages on Twitter”, says David Jones.
“Stopping tweeting means that I will have I a little more stillness in my life during Lent, which is part of what the season is about.
“Twitter, however, is a very useful tool for politicians and I am sure I will be returning to it once Easter arrives.”
In case giving up Twitter should be seen as a soft option, Jones will also be giving up wine for the season.
