MP for Clwyd West, David Jones, is seeking to raise awareness of the Black Dog Campaign which is being run by the mental health charity SANE. The campaign has already made tremendous progress by normalising discussion of mental illnesses, and bringing the issue out into the open.
The Black Dog Campaign aims to reduce the stigma surrounding mental illness and encourages people to seek help for depression and other mental health problems. SANE provides emotional support to anyone affected by mental health problems, including families, friends and carers.
David Jones said:
“I am very supportive indeed of the Black Dog campaign and the support which is made available by organisations like SANE. There is a stigma attached to mental health conditions, and this must be tackled in order to reduce the incidence of people suffering alone without seeking advice.
“I think it is particularly important around Christmas, a time when many people can find themselves feeling isolated, that they know that there are others who are available and willing to listen, and that there is advice available to help them”.
