Clwyd West MP, David Jones, is to hold a meeting with senior officials of the British Red Cross Society to discuss the Society’s proposed sale of the Old People’s Club building in Abergele.
David Jones said:
“The Old People’s Club is an important local venue and has been used for many years by local voluntary groups.
“A number of constituents have contacted me expressing great concern at the proposal, and some have suggested that the sale may in fact infringe the trusts under which the building is held.
“I have consequently contacted the British Red Cross Society to arrange a meeting early in the New Year at Westminster. I have also asked for a copy of the trust instrument setting out the terms on which the building is held.
“It is very regrettable that the British Red Cross Society did not give prior notice of its proposal to sell the building. The local groups who use it feel very strongly that there should have been considerably more consultation. As a former trustee of the Gwynedd branch of the Society, I am extremely disappointed that it has not done more to consult with local users.
“I intend to explore all these issues with the Red Cross when I meet them in the New Year.”
