MP Visits WRVS at Colwyn Bay Hospital

Clwyd West Member of Parliament, David Jones, last week (5th January) visited the WRVS shop at the Minor Injuries Unit in Colwyn Bay hospital.

David Jones chatted with the volunteers, some of whom have been staffing the shop for twenty-five years.

David Jones said:

“The WRVS do a tremendous job at Colwyn Bay hospital and their presence is clearly valued by the people who are attending for treatment at the Minor Injuries Unit.

“I was struck by the fact that so many of the volunteers have been working there for so long.  They are clearly committed to the work of the WRVS and are to be commended for their dedication.

“Volunteering is an important aspect of life in Colwyn Bay and the WRVS would welcome younger people who are willing to give up a few hours every week to help out with this important facility.”

David Jones will shortly meet with Health Board Chief Executive Mary Burrows to discuss the future of the Minor Injuries Unit, which the Health Board recently announced would be temporarily closed during the winter months.

David Jones said:

“When I visited the unit, there were a large number of people awaiting treatment.

“I am very concerned indeed at the suggestion that the unit should be closed, even if only on a temporary basis and I intend to make my concerns clear to the Chief Executive.”
