MP for Clwyd West, David Jones, has welcomed a series of Government measures which have been brought into effect over the last 18 months which should help to boost tourism within the constituency.
The measures have included:
- Scrapping rules dictating where public houses and B&Bs need to display no smoking signs;
- Simplifying the license requirements relating to live entertainment to reduce the bureaucratic burdens on businesses and organisations wishing to host concerts, plays and other live entertainment;
- Supporting seaside arcades by changing the rules affecting slot machines which had, literally, been driving seaside arcades out of business and impacting upon jobs in areas which boast some of the best coastal resorts in the UK; and
- Implementing proposals to give owners of holiday lets better tax treatment.
David Jones said:
“In an area which boasts one of the best coastlines in the United Kingdom, which is reliant upon tourism, it is very important indeed that the Government takes positive steps to stimulate and support tourism.
“Since the Victorian area the North Wales coast, parts of which are classed as areas of outstanding natural beauty, has had a substantial trade in tourism. Tourism is a significant source of income for the area, and helps to maintain continued investment to better protect and maintain the local environment whilst also creating a source of local employment”.
