Politicians, whose columns were stopped in a weekly newspaper, have been offered the chance to give their views online.
Plaid Cymru AM Leanne Wood, Julie Morgan (Labour MP, Cardiff North), Jonathan Morgan (Conservative AM, Cardiff North), Jenny Randerson (Liberal Democrat AM, Cardiff Central) and Jenny Willott (Liberal Democrat MP, Cardiff Central) wrote to Editor Mike Hill after he decided not to include their columns in Cardiff’s Echo Extra.
They all wrote regular columns in the former Cardiff Post, which was replaced by Echo Extra.
Following representations from the Assembly Members and MPs, Mr Hill, who also edits the South Wales Echo, has written offering them the chance to make online contributions but has maintained an earlier decision not to include political columns in Echo Extra.
Leanne Wood, South Wales Central regional AM, welcomed the Editor of Echo Extra’s decision to give politicians from all parties the chance to contribute to an online edition.
But added: “I am disappointed that the editor has taken the decision not to reinstate the columns, especially in the run up to the Westminster and Welsh Assembly elections.
“The columns provided a chance to engage with the community and show how politics has an impact on our daily lives.
“However, I will be taking up the offer to contribute my views online which goes some way to making up for the lack of a presence of political columns in Echo Extra.”
