My Aberdare – the website devoted to informing the public on the multi-million pound regeneration scheme for Aberdare – has welcomed its 5,000th visitor!
Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s impressive website dedicated to the regeneration and promotion of Aberdare town centre has welcomed visitors from around the world since it was launched four months ago.
The site, which can be found at www.myaberdare.com explores the many achievements already accomplished in the town, along with the schemes currently being undertaken by the Council following the cash injection of £7.7million.
Visitors are able to learn more about the several phases of the ongoing project. Working with the Council’s Alun Griffiths (Contractors) Ltd and design consultants Capita Symonds, work is already well underway throughout the main thoroughfare.
The new paving and road surfacing are two elements of the regeneration work to the street scene of Aberdare which will combine with new street furniture, signing and distinctive lighting in key areas. The paved areas will also be widened in the town to enhance the experience of every visitor while significant areas are developed into attractive public spaces.
The website also explains the Aberdare Townscape Enhancement Programme and Townscape Heritage Initiative where traders have the opportunity of applying for funding of up to 70% towards enhancing their commercial property.
The £7.7million Aberdare Regeneration Project was made possible by the Welsh Government through the European Regional Development Fund, Heads of the Valleys programme and Targeted Match Funding, plus the Councils own financial resources, the Heritage Lottery Fund, Cadw and private sector contributions.
The website allows visitors the opportunity to learn more about a series of schemes taking place in Victoria Square, Cannon Street, Commercial Street, Market Street and at Library Square with detailed descriptions of works and where possible, artist’s impressions of the final proposals.
Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Cabinet Member for Economic Development and Safer Communities Cllr Paul Cannon explained: “The website allows the public a fresh, new look at Aberdare and with 5,000 visitors in such a short period of time has become the one-stop destination for any internet user to find out more about the accurate and precise regeneration work taking place in the town centre.
“The many regeneration projects already successfully delivered and those ongoing will come as a surprise to people who haven’t been to Aberdare in the last year or two and this will hopefully attract more of them to come back to the town and enjoy the shops, the restaurants and the events and activities on offer.”
