Llandudno’s new Extra Care Housing scheme will be called Tan y Fron.
Conwy County Borough Council and the Pennaf Housing Group asked local organisations, councillors and schools for suggestions for a name for this exciting new development and a shortlist of these suggestions was put forward for the Project Board to consider.
The plot lies on land once known locally as Cae Tan y Fron and the Board agreed that it would be right to bring the name, which means beneath the hillside, back into use.
Cllr Liz Roberts, Cabinet Member, Conwy County Borough Council said, “It was clear that many people had given the matter a lot of thought and we were delighted to have such a good range of options.”
Graham Worthington, Chief Executive of Pennaf Ltd said: “Tan y Fron will give local older people a superb new opportunity to live independently while having the peace of mind of comprehensive care and support and we’re delighted that the new name reflects the historical roots of the area.”
The site will also be the location of new clinics and offices for Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board and Conwy County Borough Council’s joint EMI services. This part of the development will be named Llys Dyfrig and will accommodate Community Support Workers, Social Workers and District Nurses, as well as Podiatry, Orthotic and Psychiatry clinics.
Ty Llywelyn Community Centre is already established on the site and will continue its vital work in the area as well as encouraging inter-generational working.
