National award for Plas Ffrancon leisure centre

One of Gwynedd Council’s leisure centres has received an early Christmas gift after being awarded for the quality of service it provides to the public.

Bethesda’s Plas Ffrancon leisure centre came out on top from over 250 facilities across the UK in the category for most improved sports and leisure facility management in the recent Association for Public Service Excellence (APSE) awards.

Councillor Roy Owen, who leads on leisure for Gwynedd Council said:

“Promoting sports and leisure is very important to Gwynedd Council and we’re committed to making the most of the facilities we have in the county.

“We are very proud of what the Plas Ffrancon Leisure Centre team has achieved and I congratulate them for their hard work in providing award-winning service for the people of Dyffryn Ogwen.”

Alan Hughes, Gwynedd Council’s Senior Leisure Officer added:

“We are delighted that the Plas Ffrancon Leisure Centre has received this prestigious award and it’s a credit to the staff for their hard work. This shows that Gwynedd’s residents can take pride in their leisure services and we hope that a number of the county’s residents will make the most the excellent facilities on offer at the Council’s leisure centres.”

The awards celebrate the best performers from local councils’ frontline public services and those services that have made the most improvement in performance. APSE, which is a not for profit national local government body, works with over 300 councils throughout the UK, including Gwynedd, to promote excellence in public services.

In the same awards ceremony, Gwynedd Council was also amongst the best performer finalists and most improved performer finalists in the education catering category.
