National Bookstart Week Takes Centre Stage at the Wales Millennium Centre

National Bookstart Week has begun and the Cardiff Libraries Bookstart team are holding a special free under 5s event this Wednesday (June 8) at the Wales Millennium Centre.

The event called “All Aboard with Bookstart Bear!” will start at 10.30 and will feature fun activities for the under 5s to enjoy.

Bookstart is the national free books programme that encourages all parents and carers to encourage children to enjoy books from as early an age as possible.

The theme of this year’s Bookstart Week is transport and families are invited to “come aboard” and enjoy fun story/rhymetimes on the Glanfa stage at the Wales Millennium Centre.

Children will get transported through imaginative transport play activities and take part in interactive toddler music workshops with musician Helen Wood.

Outside the centre, there will be the chance for children to explore a real live fire engine, Cardiff Bay’s land train, a white water raft, a police motorbike and fun toddler trikes!

Every child will also receive a specially created book All Aboard by Jess Stockham featuring different forms of transport from zooming rockets to splashing boats.

Executive Member for Sport, Culture and Leisure, Cllr Nigel Howells, said: “The bookstart event at the Wales Millennium Centre is a great opportunity to capture the imagination of the young and encourage them to read. It’s also a great opportunity to promote the importance of local libraries and how they are a great resource for families.”
