Today (29 March), the National Eisteddfod and The People’s Collection announced details of a joint project, launched as part of the Eisteddfod’s Celebrate 150 campaign. The Eisteddfod’s Memories campaign has been running for a few months, and the festival has collated a wide range of memories relating to a number of years.
The partnership with The People’s Collection is a natural development for the campaign, and a chance for the National Eisteddfod to work with other leading cultural organisations in Wales on a project making the archive of Wales’ leading festival accessible for people to use and enjoy in a new and exciting way.
National Eisteddfod Chief Executive, Elfed Roberts, said:
“We are looking forward to working with The People’s Collection, not only during our150th celebrations, but also in the future. We hope that this partnership will continue and develop with individuals, organisations and the Eisteddfod itself supplementing the current archive on The People’s Collection website.
“People are key to a successful Eisteddfod, and without people, the Maes would be a very lonely place. The Eisteddfod has an important place in the culture of our country and in the hearts of the people of Wales. The festival has played an integral part in the development of Wales and its culture during the past century and a half. We hope that The People’s Collection will be an opportunity for people from all over Wales – and the world – to share their experiences, their memories and their enjoyment of the Eisteddfod, in light of this exciting partnership, creating an accessible, useful and interesting archive for future generations.”
Welsh Assembly Government Heritage Minister, Alun Ffred Jones, added:
”I am delighted with this partnership between the Eisteddfod and The People’s Collection. The Eisteddfod has an important role in Welsh culture, and it is fitting that the festival is working with The People’s Collection recounting Welsh history.
“Since its launch at last year’s Eisteddfod, many people and organisations have contributed their stories and memories to the website, and I hope that this partnership will lead to even more contributions in the future.”
