An exhibition of the ‘Old Photos of Wrexham’ has been opened at Wrexham Library. The exhibition is part of a series of events being hosted in Wrexham by the National Library of Wales.
The Librarian of the National Library of Wales, Andrew Green said ‘The National Library of Wales is the Library for all people in Wales and it’s very important and exciting for us to travel out of Aberystwyth and go to every part of Wales. We are very glad that Wrexham, a town that has been so important in Welsh history, has been our home for the last two months’.
The photos from the National Library of Wales’ extensive collections present a clear picture of community and industrial life in Wrexham and North East Wales. The photographic archive present a comprehensive view of everyday life in the region, encompassing transport, work, characters, leisure, sport and entertainment.
The exhibition will be displayed until 10th December 2010.
Cllr Bob Dutton OBE, Deputy Leader and Lead Member for Communities and Performance said:
“This is an excellent collection of photographs which clearly show the history and character of the people of Wrexham. The collection will be on display until 10th December and I urge everyone to take the opportunity to go down to Wrexham Library and perhaps spot some distant relatives!’
Other National Library of Wales events in Wrexham have included a film showing ‘The Proud Valley’ (1990) in the Odeon Cinema and a ‘Family and Local History’ day at Yale College.
