In a surprise move, the National Library of Wales in Aberwystwythwyrh announced today (April 1st) that it will no longer be lending books. It will now concentrate its resources on CDs, DVDs and PSP3 Games.
A spokesman told us:
“There’s not really much call for books in Ceredigion anymore and most people round here would prefer to watch Police Academy XV or play Grand Theft Auto Knife Fighter Turismo.
“It’s quite sad really but our archives are going to the new Wylfa Book-Powered Power Station in Anglesey so at least we will be doing our bit to help the environment”.
Peter Finch the Chief Executive of Yr Academi Gymreig, the Welsh National Literature Promotion Agency & society for Writers was unavailable for comment but his assistant told us that his column would still be appearing in the Western Mail next week.
Rachel Trezise, the winner of the inaugural Dylan Thomas Prize, the world’s richest literary prize and author of ‘Dial M for Merthyr’ told us:
“The Playstation is pretty old hat now and I’m working on stuff for the Super Duper Nintendo Sony DS4 now”.
