Stonewall has announced that Nationwide Building Society is supporting the sixth annual Stonewall Awards, the most glamorous and star-studded event in Stonewall’s calendar, on 3 November 2011 at the V&A museum. The event celebrates those who have made a positive impact on the lives of lesbian, gay and bisexual people in Britain.
Nationwide has been a member of Stonewall’s Diversity Champions programme, Britain’s good practice employers’ forum on sexual orientation, since May 2004. Robin Bailey, Diversity and Equality of Opportunities Committee Chair at Nationwide, said: ‘Stonewall does excellent work promoting inclusivity and equality for lesbian, gay and bisexual staff, and Nationwide is delighted to support an awards ceremony that celebrates people who have made such a positive impact promoting that cause.
‘Our support of this year’s Awards demonstrates our continuing commitment to our LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) staff. We are now working with Stonewall to re-energise our own Employee Network Group, helping us to provide a supportive working culture and environment where everyone is treated with dignity and respect.’
Winners of last year’s Awards included rugby player Gareth Thomas (Hero of the Year) Coronation Street (Broadcaster of the Year) and Martina Navratilova (Sports Award). Tickets will be on sale in late August and nominees will be announced in October.
