NatWest Team Volunteer at Llanfairpwll

NatWest staff from around the country volunteered for a day tidying up at St Mary’s Church Llanfairpwll recently.  The team spend the day clearing overgrown brambles, cutting the grass and repairing a fallen dry stone wall.

“The difference the NatWest team have made today is fantastic, their hard work is very very much appreciated by me and the church congregation as well as the wider community,” said the Reverend Canon Philip Hughes, Rector Llanfairpwll, Llanddaniel-fab, Penmynydd and Llanedwen.

When Gareth Owen, Keep Wales Tidy Officer, chatted recently to Robin Williams, NatWest Area Manager Private Banking Advice, they discussed different local areas that could use a tidy up.  Gareth suggested clearing at St Mary’s and Robin took the suggestion to his team and they all volunteered as part of NatWest’s community investment programme.  The NatWest volunteers travelled from the Wirral, Chester, Staffordshire, Bristol and Birmingham to join Gareth and a team from Isle of Anglesey County Council.

“It was great to get involved today. The team were prepared to get their hands dirty and it’s amazing how much we all managed to achieve in just a few hours. It’s great to see different organisations coming together to make a difference to our local community,” said Robin.

NatWest supports employees to volunteer in their communities to encourage even greater local involvement and strengthen relationships with the local communities in which it operates.  The day was a partnership with Keep Wales Tidy and Island Project Co-ordinator (Tidy Towns) with the AONB Community Warden at Isle of Anglesey County Council.

“This was a worthwhile activity which enhanced the Anglesey Coastal Path and the area surrounding St. Mary’s Church, much to the delight of the local residents and path walkers. On behalf of the community of Llanfairpwll, I wish to thank the volunteers for their energetic activity,” said Cllr John Penri Williams, Gwyngyll ward.

Everyone agreed the day was hard work but very successful and it is hoped the enthusiastic NatWest team may be able to come back to St Mary’s next year.
