Neath Port Talbot’s ever popular ‘Borough in Bloom’ competition is returning to the county borough again this year.
The competition is a much looked forward to event on the Council’s calendar and has gone from strength to strength over the years. It aims to encourage the whole community to make the county borough a cleaner and more attractive place.
With the summer season fast approaching, it’s time for all garden enthusiasts in Neath Port Talbot to fill in their application forms and start work creating their masterpieces.
The Council wants to make the competition open to as many residents as possible. Schools and businesses are all welcome to join in as well with many categories to compete for.
There are sections for new entrants, front and rear gardens, small and large gardens, hanging baskets and boxes and tubs.
Others are Specialist and Wildlife Gardens, Council Gardens, Commercial and Community Gardens and Allotments and Schools.
“Borough in Bloom has been a great success for many years and entries are always of a very high standard,” says Council Leader, Ali Thomas.
“The awards recognise the hard earned efforts of entrants, bringing pride to Neath Port Talbot and making communities more attractive places to live.
“It brings a sense of passion and pride to all generations including young schoolchildren.”
A presentation ceremony is held in the Autumn when all winners are awarded trophies and prize money by the Mayor of Neath Port Talbot.
The judge this year is Sarah Thomas who will start her deliberations at the end of July.
The closing date for entries is the 23rd July.
