The Anglesey Neighbourhood Policing Team are currently on the look-out for volunteers to help set up Neighbourhood Watch schemes in their area.
In particular, residents in Amlwch are being encouraged to develop further schemes and play their part in helping to deter crime and anti-social behaviour in their area.
Neighbourhood Watch schemes are already underway in some areas – such as Rhosybol, Rhosgoch, certain areas in Amlwch town, Penysarn and Llaneilian.
Local Community Beat Manager, PC Dafydd Pritchard said: “Neighbourhood Watch is an invaluable source of information for us, but equally it provides us with a network through which we can keep communities informed about goings on in their area. It can strengthen communities and give them a more unified voice for us to listen to.
“We need more people to attend our public meetings and assist us by setting up even more schemes in the area.
He added: “It is a great crime deterrent and I would urge more residents to get involved and play their part in helping to make the area an even more unwelcome place for criminals.”
Meetings are being held on the following dates:
- 6th April – Rhosybol Primary School hall at 18:30hrs (for the residents of Rhosybol and Rhosgoch)
- 7th April – Penysarn Hall at 19:00hrs (for the residents of Penysarn and Llaneilian)
- 12th May – Amlwch Methodist Chapel, Wesle Street at 19:00hrs 9for the residents of Wesle Street, Lon Gock and park area).
The benefits of having a Neighbourhood Watch scheme include:
- Increasing awareness of local crime issues and how to tackle them
- Contributing to improving your area and quality of life
- Opportunities to bring communities together
- • Increased crime prevention awareness – reducing opportunities for crime
- Better communication between residents, police and other agencies
- Links to Neighbourhood Police Officers for your area
Anybody who is interested in starting up a scheme, or anyone who would like any further information about Neighbourhood Watch should contact PC Dafydd Pritchard or PCSO Gwyn Rowlands at Amlwch Police Station on 101.
