Following a meeting of the Temporary Governing Body on the 24th of June 2014, it has been confirmed that the name for the New Area School for Clocaenog and Cyffylliog will be Ysgol Carreg Emlyn.
The children of both schools have been involved in choosing the name.
There is a strong historical and geographical link to the name. Emlyn’s tomb is from the bronze age and is located in the heart of Clocaenog Forest.
The tombstone was taken from the site to Pool Park House and the stone is now at the National Museum in Cardiff.
Councillor Eryl Williams (Deputy Leader of the Council and Lead Member for Education) said:
“I am delighted with the name for the new school. Carreg Emlyn is well known locally and this name provides a strong identity for the new school”.
