Visitors and bikers to Glyncorrwg in the Afan Valley are set to benefit from a new bridge over the river.
Recently completed, the Cwm Cas bridge enables people to cross over the river to continue their walking or riding.
Thanks to financial help from the Welsh Assembly and Neath Port Talbot Council, the bridge now opens up a spectacular area in Glyncorrwg which is rich in history.
Mining was the main employment on this site with both South Pit and North Rhondda employing local people from Glyncorrwg.
In the past, there was a street of homes called ‘Cwm Clas’ which was the scene of bad flooding in 1908.
There is also a history of farming in this locality and two working farms still exist today.
Local councillor, Glyn Rawlings, is delighted to see the bridge spanning over the river.
“I appreciate all the efforts that council officers have made in order to secure the funding for this project for the Upper Afan Valley.
“Walking and cycling are major elements of promoting tourism in this scenic part of the Afan Valley. It all makes a contribution to the valley strategy which aims to regenerate the valley communities of our county borough.”
