The Chairman of Flintshire County Council, Councillor Colin Legg, will launch the newly refurbished Connah’s Quay Library and Learning Centre at 2pm on Wednesday, 17 March. Members of the community are welcome to join invited guests in marking the occasion and will have an opportunity to view the improved facilities.
The project to upgrade the library was made possible by a £300,000 grant from the Welsh Assembly Government under its Libraries for Life programme, which aims to attract more people to use libraries and their facilities by modernising accommodation and the services on offer.
The investment at Connah’s Quay has seen the whole ground floor opened up, with a new entrance hall, improved layout and lighting, and a lift to the first floor, where there is a newly equipped ICT training suite and quiet study area. Imaginative furniture for the children’s area, a more user-friendly layout for the public access computers, and innovative stock for loan, such as audio books on MP3 player, are the highlights downstairs. Accessible toilet facilities and energy efficient windows throughout complete the refurbishment.
Library users have been using the new facilities since the library re-opened on March 1 and over the coming months local schools, learning providers and community groups will be invited to come and see what the library has to offer them.
