The planning application for the Strategic Coordination Centre at Dyfed Powys Police HQ was approved yesterday by Carmarthenshire County Council.
Chief Constable Ian Arundale said, “We have a tradition of well-organised and effective joint-agency planning and response to emergencies in Wales. These groups are constantly assessing their ability to deal with major incidents and further developing their response capability.
“The provision of a Strategic Coordination Centre at Police Headquarters in Carmarthen, partly funded by the Welsh Assembly Government, will ensure that we have the capability in mid and west Wales to command and manage any civil contingency emergency or disaster.
“We will also provide multi agency scenario based training facilities that could be used to deliver all Wales training for civil contingencies.
“It is important to note that the will also deliver local police training for Dyfed-Powys as well as have conference facilities that can be used by other partner agencies.”
