Denbighshire County Council’s Animal Health and Licensing department have developed a new contact scheme for horse owners.
The scheme is voluntary and free of charge and the aim is to protect the equine population by alerting people quickly to disease outbreaks(via a contact list), the scheme will also have an electronic newsletter with issues relevant to the equine community including legislative changes.
This new scheme will mean that the department can provide a similar level of service in relation to disease control that it already provides to the farming community.
With the increase in horses travelling from Europe into the UK not only are horses at risk from diseases such as Strangles but also diseases not currently in the UK, such as West Nile Virus and African Horse Sickness. A recent case of Equine Infectious Anaemia in Wiltshire is an indication of the growing risks.
If you have horse, then please join the scheme and do your part for the equine population of Denbighshire. For more details contact the department on 01824 706086 or email [email protected]
