Councillor Peter Rees has been appointed Deputy Leader of Neath Port Talbot Council.Councillor Rees, who represents the Neath South ward, holds the Cabinet Portfolio for Social Care, Health and Housing. He is also the Council’s Older Persons’ Champion.
Peter has served as a local councillor for 19 years, first elected on to Neath Borough Council in 1991.
At local government reorganisation in 1996, he was elected as a county borough councillor on Neath Port Talbot Council.
Since then, he has held several senior positions. He has been a Cabinet Member with the responsibility for many portfolios – Property, Staffing Resources and Equalities (2003), Transport Highways, Engineering and Streetcare (2004), Corporate Services (2006), and Social Care, Health and Housing (2008). He has also served as Chair of Personnel Committee (2003).
Council Leader, Ali Thomas, said, “Peter has been a valued member of the Cabinet so comes to the position with immense experience.
