New Design Brightens up Splott Road Railway Bridge

The coming days will see the completion of the repainting of Splott Road Railway Bridge. The bridge had not been painted for many years and was in a dilapidated state, giving a poor impression of Splott Road and the surrounding area.

The artistic makeover of the bridge is part of the wider Splott Road improvement project which has also seen the installation of new shop shutters, the provision of brighter street lighting, new street furniture and a community notice board.

The bridge design, prepared by artist Andrew Smith, was chosen through a public consultation in which nearly 150 votes and comments were received. The works have been undertaken by Bagnalls Contractors and in partnership with Network Rail.

Councillor Judith Woodman Cardiff Council Executive Member for Communities, Housing and Social Justice said: “I’m pleased that we have been able to support this project which is based on ideas from the community. I hope that the bridge will become a popular landmark for Splott.”
