The history of Barry Docks is explored in the latest photographic exhibition mounted by town resident and historian Tom Clemett at ‘The Room in the Park.’
Following his similar exhibitions at the Victoria Park venue featuring and The Knap and Barry Island, Tom has again been scouring the archives to put together this latest venture focussing on the historic docks from its construction through to the present day.
The exhibition, which runs until 4 February, features more than 150 photographs, covering the docks beginnings in the 19th Century through to modern images from many local photographers. It is well worth a visit for a trip down memory lane.
Park manager John Greatrex said: “Anyone who has been to one of Tom’s picture exhibitions before will know how interesting they are and, quite often, he will drop by and attempt to answer any questions. He is a mine of information on the history of Barry.”
Starting on Saturday, 6th February, and on throughout the month, is something quite different – a display of 3D pictures courtesy of the Positive Images Camera Club. The very unusual pictures are viewed through special glasses.
The exhibitions, to which entry is free, are open daily from 10am until 4pm (closed for lunch 1-2pm Saturday and Sunday).
The park has been transformed thanks to a major restoration programme undertaken by the Vale of Glamorgan Council and funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) as part of their Public Parks Initiative
