New Flintshire school is named

A brand new £7.5 million school in Connah’s Quay is to be named Ysgol Cae’r Nant/Brookfield Primary School.

Parents and pupils, past and present of Custom House Lane Junior School and Dee Road Infants School, which the new school will replace, were asked for ideas for a name. Ideas were also sought for an emblem, motto and pupils’ uniform.

The name was decided after various suggestions came forward from the school community. The new school is being built on the site of the current school playing field and Wepre Brook divides Connah’s Quay and Shotton.

Building work is progressing at the new school site which is due to open in September 2012.

The new single storey school is being built by Read Construction Holdings Ltd., of Brymbo and will accommodate 360 primary and 30 nursery pupils.

Headteacher Designate, Kate Fox-Parry, said:

“I am delighted that we now have a name for our new school. A name which means something to the children today and future generations. Our model dragon now needs naming; another task for our children to engage in. The dragon will be the keeper of the time capsule that is being buried in our new school.”

Councillor Bernie Attridge, Chairman of the Shadow Governing Body said:

“I was very pleased with the responses we received from parents, pupils and members of the public with ideas for a name for our new school. The shadow governing body decided that Brookfield School would be the new name as it is part of the unique history of Connah’s Quay and helps bring together a 21st century school to be enjoyed and used by generations to come.”
