New homes win County excellence awards

North Wales’s top homebuilder has scooped a double award for a new development on their home turf at Rhyl.

Anwyl Construction’s Parc Aberkinsey development has gained two top awards from the people whose job it is to monitor building quality, local authority building control inspectors.

The 138-home first phase of the estate has been voted Denbighshire’s best large-scale development and also the county’s Best Social/Affordable Housing project this year after they teamed up with social landlords Clwyd Alyn Housing Association, part of the Pennaf Group, to build 26 affordable homes.

These are specifically aimed at first-time buyers and will be used by Pennaf to provide people entering the housing market with a first rung on the ladder to home ownership.

The awards were two of five picked up by the Rhyl-based family firm – including a Lifetime Achievement award for company chairman Graham Anwyl – from the North Wales Local Authority Building Control Officers.

Parc Aberkinsey is a major development of three, four and five-bedroomed homes to the south-east of Rhyl and Director Mat Anwyl said: “We’re naturally very pleased to have once again been very successful in the North Wales Building Control Awards.

“We’re also delighted to have teamed up with Clwyd Alyn Housing Association to work on this project and the award is a fitting reward for them as well as for us.

“We consider them a hugely important accolade and a benchmark for the construction industry in North Wales.

“It’s always nice to have your work recognised and it’s especially nice for the site manager Steve Parry who is 49 and has been with us since leaving school and his staff at Parc Aberkinsey who have worked very hard on this project.

“We do feel it is important to work with the local authority building control departments in North Wales.

“We choose to use them because we have a good working relationship with them which has been built up over the years. You can talk to them about issues and it works very well for both sides.”

Anwyl’s were congratulated on their success by Deiniol Evans, Director of Development and Technical Services for the Pennaf Group. He said: “The Building Excellence Awards provide recognition for those engaged in construction projects who have achieved outstanding quality and compliance with local authority building controls, and it is great news that the Anwyl team working on Parc Aberkinsey has been named as the County Champion in two categories.

“At Pennaf we are committed to working in partnership with local authorities and appreciate the services and expertise they provide in helping to deliver affordable homes of a high quality.”
