Ysgol Dyffryn Nantlle pupils enjoying the Lori Ni service
A new service has been launched in Gwynedd which means that children and young people will have greater access to information, entertainment and education on their own doorstep.
Lori Ni (Our Lorry) is a mobile information service which is a joint venture by Gwynedd’s Library Service and Gwynedd-Ni, the information service for Gwynedd’s children, young people and their families.
Lori-Ni is no ordinary mobile library – as well as the latest books it carries information about Gwynedd-Ni. Children and young people can find information and literature about the different services Gwynedd-Ni provides. There is also information about a range of other topics such as healthy eating and the best ways to keep fit.
Lori-Ni has now started its tour of the county’s secondary schools. This follows successful visits to local primary schools during September.
Councillor Gwen Griffith, Gwynedd Council Portfolio Leader with responsibility for Children and Young People, said:
“Lori-Ni is a superb way for children and young people to gain access to the same services, no matter where they live. It shows what can be achieved by different services working together.”
Iwan Trefor Jones, Chairman of Gwynedd’s Children and Young People’s Partnership, added:
“The lorry provides the traditional service of book lending as well as the new service of providing information about what services are available to Gwynedd’s young people.
“There is also valuable information to be found on board about a variety of subjects which can have a major impact on the lives of our children such as information about the affects of drugs and alcohol, how to stay safe while surfing the net, information about further education and ideas about careers and volunteering opportunities.”
The lorry will call by the county’s secondary schools again in the new year. By then there will be WiFi connection in all schools so the laptop computers on board will have internet connection, providing a comprehensive service to Gwynedd’s youngsters.
