Conwy County Borough Council’s Education Service has taken over the building and grounds of the former Dinosaur World in Parc Eirias and is developing an outdoor learning centre for local schools, pre-schools and parent groups.
The development aims to enhance the surroundings at Parc Eirias, improve facilities for local children and complement the Bay Life+ projects currently underway in the area.
Funding to refurbish the building has been secured from the Welsh Assembly Government through the Foundation Phase and Flying Start initiatives. The Foundation Phase Curriculum emphasises the need for children to spend more time enjoying the outdoor environment.
Annette Evans, Education Services said, “The centre will have an educational focus for children, staff and families to explore the natural environment through hands-on experiences. The building will be a training base for both pre-school and school staff within Conwy, whilst the outdoor area will give children the opportunity to enjoy and appreciate nature on their doorstep.”
Different zones will be created to inspire imaginative play, allowing children to investigate, to enjoy sensory experiences and explore nature at its best!
The area is a popular destination for local families, dog walkers, school children, general public and visitors to the area. We hope that everyone will appreciate the positive changes being made to enhance the site, and play a part in caring for the environment.
The area will be designed to attract wildlife using both the existing plants and trees and with new planting. By maintaining a natural environment, children can enjoy running, hiding, exploring and having fun without the need for high tech man-made equipment.
The area will remain open for public access, except during teaching session when the gates will be locked. Dog waste bins will also be placed at two locations around the site to help keep the area safe and clean for all.
Work is currently underway on site and access to the area is restricted for safety purposes.
The site is monitored 24 hours a day by CCTV.
