The first tenants have set up their stalls in an impressive new Indoor Market that has reopened its doors to shoppers in the heart of Caerphilly town centre.
There was cause for a double celebration in Caerphilly over the weekend with the official opening of the market and the success of the annual Christmas Fayre.
Cllr Ron Davies, CCBC Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Planning helped welcome the first tenants into the indoor market. The market was once the bustling heart of Caerphilly, but it has been closed for more than a decade.
Local brothers David and Alan Prosser are backing the project to restore the indoor market to its former glory and they invited Cllr Davies and the Mayor, Cllr James Fussell to the official opening ceremony on Saturday 11th December.
Cllr Ron Davies said, “It’s great to see that David and Alan are breathing new life into this historic indoor market and I was delighted to be asked to attend the official opening and get to see some of the attractions on offer. This is a welcome boost for Caerphilly and demonstrates the increasing confidence in the town centre.”
The long awaited revival of the market hall, which was first opened in 1927 and is situated on Pentrebane Street off Cardiff Road, will help enhance the town centre by attracting traders and visitors to what is already on offer in Caerphilly.
