He hard work of pupils at a Swansea school has paid off with the revamp of their library and the prospect of a new one.
Their old-style facility at Daniel James Community School is now a distant memory as they enjoy a bright, vibrant and friendly working library. A new library is due to open at the end of March.
They are thankful to many individuals and organisations who have helped their dream come true.
Librarian Tori Wright said: “Great things are happening. We’re attracting visits by authors and we hope to further encourage the students’ enthusiasm for reading.
“We believe that reading is the students’ key to accessing the learning available at school and to improving their chances throughout life.
“Our library is now a colourful and safe environment for everybody who visits.”
Miss Wright arrived at Daniel James in January and has been delighted by the efforts made to improve library facilities.
She said: “Students have been responsible for creating posters and formulating library rules; staff have brought in books and given up time to manage the high demand for the new facility.
“New books have been donated by local business, including Waterstone’s, and other books have come from Swansea Libraries, coordinated by Jodie Jones, of Penlan Library.
“Local libraries have also donated furniture, coordinated by Chris Skudra, whose daughter works at the school.”
Donations of posters, bookmarks and books have come from national publishers such as HarperCollins, Walker and Usborne.
Miss Wright said: “We’re all exceptionally grateful for the support we’ve had, and we’re excited about the buzz created amongst students.
“We hope to gain further support and donations as the months progress.”
