New Llangefni library opens its doors

The newly refurbished Llangefni Library will be opening its doors to the public on Monday (February 7th).

The renovation scheme, undertaken to modernize, refresh and improve customer facilities was made possible thanks to a £275,000 grant from the Welsh Assembly Government.

The building has now been successfully transformed into a modern, welcoming and user friendly library. Renovation works have included a redesign of the interior with external works to replace cladding, install double glazed windows and changes to the entrance to include a canopy and automatic door.

The six month renovation project also saw a temporary library opened within the old Ysgol-y-Graig building in the town.

Education portfolio holder, Councillor Eurfryn Davies, who has responsibility for libraries, has been impressed by the work.

He said, “Llangefni library has been completely transformed into a modern, welcoming and friendly library and I would now encourage the public to make good use of what is an excellent community and educational resource on their doorstep.”

Cllr Davies added, “We are grateful to the Welsh Assembly for the significant grant funding which has allowed us to realise this important modernisation plan for Llangefni Library.”

The Llangefni grant forms part of a three year Libraries for Life programme which aims to attract more people to use improved facilities and services at libraries. The grants are administered by CyMAL: Museums Archives and Libraries Wales division of the Welsh Assembly Government based in Aberystwyth.

A similar CyMAL supported project is currently underway at Menai Bridge, with a completion date towards the end of February, with the renovated library opening to the public in early March.

Last year Assembly Heritage Minister, Alun Ffred Jones AM, announced a national investment package of £4million to develop the work of libraries, museums and archives throughout Wales.
