Aspiring entrepreneurs will be given insight and advice on running their own business from the leading figures behind some of North Wales’s most successful companies under a new networking scheme in Wrexham.
The Business Entrepreneurship Network (BEN) for Wrexham holds its first event at the town’s Glyndŵr University Racecourse Stadium at 10am on Friday, March 28.
The network, backed by the Welsh Government, aims to increase the number of business start-ups in Wales.
It will provide people interested in becoming their own boss with access to support, advice and business skills training at regular networking events.
Comtek CEO Askar Sheibani has organised the network through his role as an Entrepreneurship Champion in Wales, following the success of a similar scheme in Flintshire.
The BEN Wrexham launch event is free to all and will feature an opportunity for people to pitch their business ideas to a Dragons Den-style panel of successful local businesspeople.
Judith Alexander, Zone manager for Glyndŵr University, said: “We are delighted that the Glyndŵr University Racecourse Stadium will host the launch event for what we hope will become a fantastic avenue of support for aspiring entrepreneurs.
“Start-ups are vital to the growth of the Welsh economy and the university already operates a strong programme of extra-curricular activities to help students launch their own business.
“This will complement that perfectly, providing unique and regular access to advice from successful entrepreneurs who are proof that anything is possible when it comes to launching a new business.”
The progress of the Wrexham BEN will be monitored by an independent organisation appointed by the Welsh Government who will report back to the Economy Minister, Edwina Hart, at the end of the year.
The Flintshire model has been running for a year and identifies budding entrepreneurs through Dragon’s Den style events.
They are supported through an Enterprise Club which meets fortnightly and provides support and business skills training and the chance to network, exchange ideas and support each other.
Askar Sheibani said: “Like Flintshire, Wrexham has a wealth of raw talent that simply needs to be nurtured by experienced entrepreneurs and supported by the local community.“

The event runs from 10am to 3pm on Friday, March 28, at the Glyndwr University Racecourse Stadium (Mold Road entrance).
