The brand new Recycling Park in Marsh Road, Rhyl will open for use by North Denbighshire householders on Monday, 29th November.
The new facility is located on the former Morfa landfill directly opposite the old Marsh Lane Civic Amenity Site which will close on Sunday, 28th November.
The new recycling facility is a split-level design, so that householders will no longer have to climb steps to deposit their rubbish into skips. A one-way system will be in place and the vast majority of truck movements will take place away from the public areas making the new Recycling Park safer, cleaner and more convenient for visitors.
Less than 20% of the household waste taken to the new Recycling Park will be sent to landfill.
Councillor Sharon Frobisher, Denbighshire County Council’s Lead Member for Environment, outlined how the new Recycling Park will help Denbighshire achieve a 60% recycling rate, said: “Householders will be able to recycle all the materials they expect to recycle, things like garden waste and cardboard, but we will now be able to recycle new things like mattresses, furniture and carpets for the first time. This will ensure Denbighshire remains one of the best places to recycle in Wales.”
The Council is also announcing that the Prestatyn Recycling Park will close its gates for the last time on Sunday, 5th December. Neither the Prestatyn site, nor the old Rhyl site, meet current Environment Agency standards and both have been earmarked for closure once a new Recycling Park was built.
