Cardiff Council’s ‘Really Rubbish’ team paid a visit to Cardiff High School at the beginning of April as part of the launch of their latest ‘Schools Against Litter’ campaign – ‘Let’s Tackle Litter Together’. The team delivered a presentation to students about the importance of keeping their school clean and tidy, along with a reminder of the potential consequences of dropping litter.
The Really Rubbish visit also provided an opportunity to screen a short video of the photo-shoot for the latest campaign poster, which had a rugby theme and featured four students from Cardiff schools, including Cardiff High School’s own Luke Evans.
Cabinet member for Environment, Cllr Bob Derbyshire said, ‘The “Let’s Tackle Litter Together” campaign is an excellent way to get the message across that littering your communities is unacceptable behaviour. Our “Really Rubbish” team work tirelessly in schools and the pupils are always very responsive and passionate about keeping their school free of litter. We urge everyone to think before they throw as someone else has to pick it up and I’m delighted our campaign has got off to a great start in Cardiff High and I look forward to “Let’s Tackle Litter Together” rolling out across the capital.’
Assistant Head Teacher at Cardiff High, Catherine Falcus, said, “Our school is thrilled to be involved with the Really Rubbish Campaign and their Schools Against Litter initiative. We are so proud that Luke Evans is representing us in this campaign, and we hope to spread the anti-litter message through the school and in the community.”
Pupils were also asked to think of alternative ways to spend the costly £80 fine they could pick up if caught littering, and popular suggestions included computer games and food. One especially generous student even proposed giving half the money to charity!
The ‘Let’s Tackle Litter Campaign’ is being rolled out to all high schools in Cardiff and features on bus stop advertising boards throughout the City.
