Rhondda Cynon Taf Council and the Department for Work and Pensions have joined forces to launch a scheme called Tell Us Once. This service supports customers who have suffered bereavement.
Reporting a death used to mean numerous calls and letters to various Council services and Central Government departments to advise of the death.
With Tell Us Once, the Council acts as the agent for the information and ensures that it is relayed promptly and appropriately. This timely information also prevents the issue of correspondence to the deceased person which can be extremely distressing for those close to the deceased.
The service is convenient, starting with Registration officer who supports the next of kin, or their nominee, by offering this opportunity as they register the death formally.
The Tell Us Once service can be undertaken ‘there and then’, or during a follow up visit, or through a Department of Work and Pensions contact number.
Information is only shared if the bereaved customer consents to this in relation to an optional range of agencies such as Social Services, the DVLA, Pensions services etc.
Since October 2010, the scheme is already providing real support for those who are going through one of the most difficult times in their life.
Cllr Andrew Morgan, Cabinet Member with responsibility for Customer Care, said: “Dealing with the death of a loved-one is a difficult process – the last thing people want to be worrying about is numerous phone calls and letters to the many different agencies that need to be informed.
“That is why we have worked with the Department for Work and Pensions to create a simple process that offers assistance and support.
“We hope that by offering Tell Us Once, it is one less thing for people to have to deal with during these difficult times.”
