More tenants have set up their stalls in an impressive new Indoor Market that has reopened its doors to shoppers in the heart of Caerphilly town centre.
The first phase of the market opened in December, but now more tenants have moved in as part of a second phase of the development.
Local brothers David and Alan Prosser are backing the project to restore the indoor market to its former glory and they invited the CCBC Mayor Cllr James Fussel and cabinet member Cllr Ron Davies to welcome the new tenants into the indoor market at a recent event.
The market was once the bustling heart of Caerphilly, but it has been closed for more that a decade.
Cllr Ron Davies said, “I was delighted to be asked to open the second phase of the scheme and it’s great to see even more businesses coming on board. The redevelopment of the Indoor Market is a welcome boost for Caerphilly and demonstrates the increasing confidence in the town centre.”
The long awaited revival of the market hall, which was first opened in 1927 and is situated on Pentrebane Street off Cardiff Road, will help enhance the town centre by attracting traders and visitors to what is already on offer in Caerphilly.
The market traders will be helping to raise money for Comic Relief this weekend, with various fundraising activities. Stall holder Simon Cook will be undertaking a 5,000 meter sponsored row in a ‘man-kiny’. Shoppers are urged to go along and show their support.
