Bridgend County Borough Council has appointed Rhiannon Kingsley as its new town centre manager for the Bridgend, Porthcawl and Maesteg areas.
A former projects team leader for Swansea City Centre Management and a Business Improvement District manager, Rhiannon has been involved in town centre management for the last six years.
She has worked closely with traders in Swansea and has delivered projects such as the installation of Swansea’s BIG Screen and the design and development of the city’s Christmas lights.
Rhiannon has also managed specialist events such as the Swansea Live music festival, themed Christmas and continental markets and celebrations to mark Saint David’s Day.
She said: “Town centres act as hubs for business, entertainment, shopping, leisure, culture, public services and transportation in communities throughout the UK. A lot of good work has already taken place in Bridgend County Borough, but there is still a great deal of untapped potential.
“One of my top priorities will be to work closely with local business owners, chambers of trade and other stakeholders, increasing their involvement in the decision making process and developing more of a partnership approach.
“We will need to develop a clear understanding of the issues facing our town centres and produce a consistent vision that will play to the strengths of Bridgend, Porthcawl and Maesteg.
“I will also be seeking to find ways of strengthening our footfall figures and supporting and initiating projects that will encourage our town centre economies to flourish.”
