Organic Centre Wales has relaunched its website at a new address: www.organiccentrewales.org.uk. The new website has the same features as the old one, but a new layout makes it easier to use and maintain.
The main sections provide information for producers, consumers, schools and businesses, in keeping with OCW’s remit to serve the whole supply chain from field to plate.
For producers, there is information on the Organic Conversion Information Service, farm events and discussion groups organized by the Farming Connect Organic Development Programme, the Organic Farming Scheme, and shows and conferences. A calendar of events and a classified adverts section make the site worth a regular visit.
The business pages cover market intelligence, trade development and public procurement, and this section will grow soon with the new supply chain project Better Organic Business Links which will promote sustainable development of the organic sector in Wales.
The consumer pages include an explanation of what organic food is, together with details of where to buy it, hotels and restaurants offering organic food, and food festivals around Wales.
For schools, there is a list of organic farms which welcome visits, information on organic gardening in schools, and suggestions on how to use organic food in schools.
A section on strategy covers the work that is being done to build the organic sector in Wales, including the Organic Action Plan, responses to Welsh Assembly Government consultations and organic support payments.
“It’s a challenging but exciting time for the organic sector in Wales, with more produce available than ever before and growing concerns about climate change and food security,” said OCW Director Sue Fowler.
“Our new site shows how well placed we are to make the most of new opportunities, especially now that we are able to offer a better service to organic businesses with our new project BOBL. Do visit the site and tell us what you think of it, and register for our monthly bulletins.”
